Garam Masala Spice Blend Recipe

Garam Masala is an aromatic blend of warm spices used in Indian cuisine. There is nothing more comforting then a bowl of Chicken Tikka Masala or Chana Masala served on top of some basmati rice.  The true way to do it involves toasting the whole spices and then grinding them. This is a convenient short cut that in my opinion is close enough to serve as a pretty good substitute. Just blend these spices from your spice cupboard and enjoy. This makes exactly one tablespoon which is usually the amount needed in recipes.


  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
